Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Sandra Day O’Connor will be memorialized.
President Joe Biden signed S. 3294 into law a week ago, which directs the installation of statues honoring Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Justice Sandra Day O’Connor in the U.S. Capitol near the old Supreme Court chamber. The bill was written by Senators Amy Klobuchar, Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins, and Kyrsten Sinema, and was backed by two women’s caucuses.
“Justice Ginsburg’s dedication to our country’s values and ideals is an example for every American,” Senator Klobuchar said when she first proposed the law last year. “She was an icon and a trailblazer who dedicated her life to opening doors for women at a time when so many insisted on keeping them shut.”
